Um insgesamt
drei neue Themenbereiche soll der
Walt Disney
Studios Park in
Paris erweitert
werden.

The list of investments planned for the Disney Parks is a long
one: New experiences, attractions, and rides are being created
not only for Walt Disney World in Florida, but also for the
original park in Anaheim, the Disneyland Resort, as well as
the other Disney Parks outside of the United States such as
Disneyland Resort Paris or Shanghai Disney Resort. So what
awaits us in 2018 and beyond at Disney?

Star Wars and Pixar Conquer the World
A "Toy Story Land" was announced a few years ago for
Disney`s Hollywood Studios in Florida (cp. EAP News, Aug.
18th, 2015), which is now scheduled to open this summer
June 30 th. The completely new theme area is being created
around "Toy Story Mania!", the interactive 3D dark ride
which opened in 2008. It will offer two brand-new attractions
covering a site of approximately 4.5 hectares: "Slinky Dog
Dash", a family rollercoaster bringing young guests very close
to the toy dog "Slinky" from the Pixar films, and the second
new attraction, "Alien Swirling Saucers", where everything
revolves around the green aliens from the "Pizza Planet"
machine. Toy Story Mania!, which has always been notorious
for its long waiting times, has also now been equipped with a
third track in order to facilitate higher throughput of visitors in
the future. And snacks & co. in "Woody`s Lunch Box", based
on the toy sheriff from the films, provide great between-meal
refreshments. And obviously, guests shrink to the size of toy
figures as soon as they enter the Toy Story area to provide an
even more authentic experience.
Incidentally, there will also be a Toy Story Land at Shanghai
Disneyland starting from April this year (cp. EAP News, Dec.
13th, 2017). This addition constitutes the seventh theme area
for this Chinese park and it first extension since the park
officially opened in 2016 (cp. EAP News, June 14th, 2016 &
EAP 5/2016).
Visitors will still have to remain patient however for "Star
Wars: Galaxy's Edge", the new Star Wars theme area set to
open at Disneyland Park in California and at Hollywood
Studios in 2019. Covering approximately 5.7 hectares of land
each, these two areas represent the largest expansion of a
single themed area at Disney to date. The construction of a
luxury resort with a Star Wars themed hotel for Hollywood
Studios that will have a direct connection to the new park
area has also been announced. Guests will be able to immerse
themselves fully in the vast galaxies of the film franchise,
including Star Wars-style clothing and a view into space from
the resort`s windows.

Quite classic and yet unique, Hollywood Studios Park will
also receive the first Mickey Mouse themed ride-through
attraction in 2019: "Mickey & Minnie`s Runaway Railway".
Using the latest technology, the popular two-dimensional
mouse couple's cartoon world will be experienced in several
dimensions in the future.
A birthday is set to be celebrated at Disney's Animal Kingdom
in 2018. The theme park, which is offering two new character
experiences for its visitors this year, is turning 20 years
old. Since April, visitors to "Explorers Meet UP! A Great
Bird Adventure" have had the opportunity to meet the scout
character Russell from the Pixar film "Up" and join him and
his furry friend Dug in meeting bird species from all over
the world. Donald Duck and his friends will be waiting for
the guests at the "Dinoland U.S.A." area starting Memorial
Day weekend at the end of May to celebrate the anniversary
with them. The theme area "Pandora The World of Avatar,"
which was newly opened last year (cp. EAP 1/2018), will
certainly attract many visitors again. The park has also been
awarded a special prize for its "Avatar Flight of Passage"
flight simulator attraction by the Visual Effects Society (VES).
This volunteer organization brings together experts from all
the creative sectors of the special effects industry around the
world.
The Magic Kingdom Park will also feature some of the
Pixar characters starting this summer. Just in time for the
US release of "The Incredibles 2", park guests will be able
to make contact with the superhero family from the film in
the "Tomorrowland" theme area. When and in which
version the new "Tron" attraction will be implemented
in another new theme area near "Space Mountain" still
remains unknown. At Shanghai Disneyland, the Vekoma
rollercoaster "Tron Lightcycle Power Run" has been
pulling in the crowds since it opened almost two years ago.
A new superhero appearance by "Star Lord" and "Gamora"
in the "America Gardens Theatre" at Epcot should offer
a taste of the new upcoming "Guardians of the Galaxy"
family attraction, which will be a rollercoaster with a Marvel
theme. Disney promises its guests an innovative new ride
system and one of the longest indoor rollercoasters in the
world.
Additionally, the company is currently working on the
implementation of a new gondola transport system at the Walt
Disney World Resort under the name "Disney Skyliner". The
new system will bring resort guests to Hollywood Studios and
Epcot.
