Never "Sold out"!

Changing technology, hightech,
precision and capacity
In conversation with Christian Freiherr von Elverfeldt,
CEO of Mack Rides
When I first entered the Mack Rides building in Waldkirch
many years ago, I remember how amazed I was that at first
glance the production facility where so many magical merrygo-rounds and breathtaking roller coasters are created looked
so sober and unspectacular ... Here, where the inventive spirit
of whole generations and their passion for technology and
speed could be expected to inspire the factory halls, everything
seemed so down-to-earth and industrial to me ... Whenever I
have visited Mack Rides in Waldkirch since then I have experienced changes and innovation in production: the modernisation and extension of the factory and office buildings, modern
R&D and engineering departments, zero level production, and
one day I even encountered a robot ...
What has remained constant throughout all this time, however,
is that Mack Rides is still a medium-sized family business. For
eight generations nowadays represented by the shareholders
Roland, Jürgen and Michael Mack this traditional company
has been owned by the Mack family. What began as a small
workshop for carriage building has now become a modern
company with 200 employees producing rides which enjoy
the highest international reputation. Today Mack Rides is led
by a team of three: CEO Christian Freiherr von Elverfeldt,
Technical Director Günter Burger and Sales & Marketing

bereits seit mehreren Jahren.
Vielen Dank
für die interessanten Einblicke.

In an interview with Christian Freiherr von Elverfeldt we asked
him about the latest developments at the Waldkirch location and
how he sees the future of the company on the global market.
EAP: It's hard to believe! I looked it up specially ... It's been
almost 14 years since you switched to this colourful industry,
and you have been at the head of Mack Rides ever since! In
your opinion, how has the leisure industry changed during this
time?
Christian v. Elverfeldt (C.v.E.): Although this was never
our slogan in the past and still isn't today, over the last
decade our industry has probably been characterised above
all by the principle of "higher, faster, further". Since then
the markets worldwide, especially in the Far East and the
Middle East, have developed rapidly, with new projects quickly
overshadowing what has only recently been completed, and
with new hightech elements being introduced into amusement
parks around the world. World firsts such as our Inverted
Powered Coaster are already causing a sensation, while
our Power Splash and Xtreme Spinning Coaster together
with many other big attractions are also showing what is
possible today and inspiring visitors worldwide. There has
clearly been a further major technological leap forward, and
this has had a positive impact on all parks and suppliers.
