The generation that grew up with the digital world wants to
integrate this content into amusement parks. Media content,
networking and interactivity are the buzzwords when it comes
to the development of amusement parks in the current and the
coming decade. With its VR Coaster subsidiary Mack Rides
has a strong contender in this race, while with its media-based
attractions the new Tacumeon Rides brand also aims in this
direction. However, I'm convinced that the traditional roller
coaster will also continue to be highly popular with visitors.
EAP: Mack Rides is known to be one of the big players in the
leisure industry. What would you describe as the most serious
changes the company has undergone in recent years? What
came after zero level production?
C.v.E.: For us zero level production was only the very first
step in bringing the quality and technology of our track
production into a new era. Today it would not be impossible
to supply hypercoasters or other major attractions in the
desired quality and quantity without these technical aids.
Particularly in rail production, with the help of robots we
have succeeded in implementing the one-off production of
components which previously had to be developed using
semi-finished products and frequent manual adjustments. With
such techniques we have been able to constantly increase and
expand our quality standards while reducing costs.

Today we have a well-established department in prototype
and equipment construction, employing specialists and
engineers who have helped us to make a huge leap in
manufacturing technology. Unfortunately I can't say too
much about many of our current innovations because, as I
said, these are in-house developments which we need to treat
confidentially for competition reasons. But I can tell you
this much: the kind of modern production robots which are
familiar from the series manufacture of automobiles are also
in daily use in our production. The guiding principle for us is
automation of individual production, i.e. the ability to apply
robotics and automation even to individual quantities.
EAP: You say that manufacturing processes have changed,
and have already mentioned the use of robotics. How
much hightech is actually involved in present-day Mack
production? How much work on a new roller coaster is
done today by our colleague the computer?
C.v.E.: Yes, the nature of our production has changed a
lot. In addition to the classic workstations, our modern
production facilities are equipped with robots and some
CNC-controlled milling centres. We have realised that the
use of these technologies allows us to create new designs that
make our products even more maintenance friendly and longlasting. We're highly ambitious in this respect.
